In fact, proinflammatory cytokine TNFα (Fig. 1), in course of RA, in addition to inhibiting BMP-induced bone formation [70], induces BMP3 expression in mature osteoblast at the sites of bone erosion, as showed by Matzelle et al., suggesting a crucial role of BMP3 in bone repair failure in RA patients [71]. This evidence concerns the gene BMP3 and rheumatoid arthritis.
