Interestingly, GB-derived microglia/macrophages expressed a gene signature that strongly resembled the pro-inflammatory microglia signature (including genes such as Spp1, Il1b, and Cxcl9), described by Krasemann et al. in microglia derived from models of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), multiple sclerosis (MS), and Alzheimer’s disease (AD)42. The gene discussed is SPP1; the disease is multiple sclerosis.
