TP53 and cancer: A recent study on the next-generation sequencing of 669 patients with 24 types of cancers showed that the average mutation rate of the SWI/SNF gene was 19%, which was only lower than the mutation rate of TP53 (26%); therefore, the SWI/SNF gene is ranked second among all mutated genes, making the SWI/SNF complex and its mediated nucleosome chromatin remodeling the focus of cancer research [1].
