We demonstrated that, although Atg5 and Atg8 mRNAs were not upmodulated (Fig. 4A), vitiligo fibroblasts showed a tendency to exhibit elevated autophagy, as assessed by increases of Atg7 gene expression (Fig. 4A), LC3 (Fig. S2A, Fig. 4B), and Beclin I production (Fig. 4C) concurrently with the down-modulation of SQSTM1/p62 (Fig. 4D). The gene discussed is ATG5; the disease is vitiligo.
