The increase in OPN levels observed in mestizo-Mexican adolescents with MetS and its correlation with MDA, a reactive aldehyde involved in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis, let us suggest that OPN could be an early indicator of vascular injury in overweight and obese adolescents that increase the risk of hypertension and atherosclerotic lesions later in adulhood.
