Researchers atLilly published a series of papers regarding indole-based derivativesas GIIA sPLA2 (referred to by the authors as human non-pancreaticsecretory phospholipase A2, hnps-PLA2) inhibitors.118 High levels of GIIA sPLA2 are associatedwith numerous disease states, including acute pancreatitis,119 adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS),bacterial peritonitis, and septic shock.120 Potent and selective GIIA sPLA2 inhibitors would be useful pharmacologicaltools for treating such diseases. The gene discussed is PLA2G2A; the disease is acute pancreatitis.
