Autoantibodies in membranous nephropathy are directed against at least two podocyte-specific membrane proteins with extracellularly exposed regions including phospholipase A2 receptor (PLA2R) (34) and thrombospondin type-1 domain-containing 7A (THSD7A) (35) (Figure 2B). The gene discussed is PLA2R1; the disease is membranous glomerulonephritis.
