DPP4 and Middle East respiratory syndrome: Expression of these genes in zebrafish enterocytes suggests that their counterpart in human could be important for coronavirus infections because: (1) ANPEP is a receptor for the human common cold coronavirus HCoV-229E (Fehr and Perlman, 2015); (2) DPP4 is the receptor for MERS-CoV, the causative agent of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (Raj et al., 2013); and (3) ACE2 is the receptor for SARS-CoV-2.
