It has been previously confirmed that the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway stimulates tumor cell growth and proliferation by promoting a variety of anabolic processes in multiple cancer types [22, 25, 26], while the anti-cancer potential of mTOR inhibitors, like rapamycin and everolimus, has been clinically evaluated in lung cancer patients [27–29]. This evidence concerns the gene AKT1 and lung cancer.
