While earlier studies showed that treatment with ACEI or ARB leads to up-regulation of ACE2 in patients with type 1 or 2 diabetes [5] or in patients with hypertension [29], a recent study suggests that ACEI/ARB do not increase the expression of the ciliary ACE2 receptor, and thus, they may not enhance susceptibility to SARS-CoV-2 infection [30]. The gene discussed is ACE2; the disease is diabetes mellitus.
