HMGB1 and epilepsy: In a rodent model of epilepsy, targeting/inhibiting HMGB1 by BoxA (fragment of HMGB1 with antagonistic activity) and other HMGB1 neutralization strategies such as anti-HMGB1 mAb and Glycyrrhizin demonstrated reduction in frequency and duration of seizure (Maroso et al., 2010), disease modifying anti-epileptogenic effects (Zhao et al., 2017) and neuroprotective effects (Li et al., 2019) respectively.
