Among the network genes, we selected eight of them (VACM-1, SAMHD-1, DDAH-1, HMOX1, LTC4S, ACTB, KPNA2, and JUN) for further analysis based on a combination of factors: (i) strength of the network-predicted associations (Supplementary Table S5); (ii) each gene’s | log-fold change| > 0.5 and q < 0.05 (Supplementary Figures S6–S8); (iii) genes interact with at least two stroke-associated genes or SARS-CoV-2 target host genes;, and (iv) literature-reported evidence associated with stroke. Here, KPNA2 is linked to stroke disorder.
