Considering that IUGR is associated with MetS in adulthood and allele variants of the FTO and PPARγ genes are associated with obesity and MetS later in life, it is plausible to hypothesize that these allele variants may also have a role in intrauterine growth, with potential effects on obesity and metabolic disorders later in life. The gene discussed is PPARG; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
