THBD and deep vein thrombosis: Based on the key anticoagulant effects of thrombomodulin, it has been identified that genetic defects in many thrombomodulin genes are associated with the risk of primary and recurrent thrombosis.[15–17] Abnormal expression of thrombomodulin is significant in the occurrence and development of VTE, which clearly indicates that thrombomodulin gene polymorphism can be used as a biomarker to evaluate the risk of VTE.
