Satellite cells are the primary myogenic progenitors responsible for the majority of skeletal muscle regeneration (Kuang et al., 2007; Relaix and Zammit, 2012), and have been shown to be spuriously activated in an NF-κB-dependent manner in multiple models of cancer-induced cachexia (He et al., 2013). The gene discussed is NFKB1; the disease is cancer.
