The expression of the Bcl-2 gene in the context of the clinical-pathological characteristics of HNSCC has shown that a positive correlation exists between the overexpression of this gene in tumor cells and the tumor mitotic index, a higher index of atypical mitoses, and a micro focal pattern of the invasive margin of the tumor, thus promoting unfavorable histopathological characteristics (Sulkowska et al., 2003). This evidence concerns the gene BCL2 and head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.
