Two molecular factors, the promoter methylation of the O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) gene and the mutation of the isocitrate dehydrogenase-1 (IDH-1), an indicator of progression from lower grade glioma (secondary glioblastoma), have been identified as prognostic factors associated with a favorable prognosis (6–8). The gene discussed is MGMT; the disease is central nervous system cancer.
