In animal models of obesity, studies demonstrated divergent results (Figures 2A,C), Ottolini et al. (2020) evidenced that reduced TRPV4 channels function can contribute to obesity-induced hypertension, while contrarily, a study by Greenstein et al. (2020) showed no alteration in TRPV4 expression and/or activity, therefore obesity had no influence on the endothelial muscarinic/TRPV4 vasodilator pathway. This evidence concerns the gene TRPV4 and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
