A recent report demonstrated that diet-induced obesity (diets started at 6 weeks of age and continued until at 20 weeks; 60% of total kcal from fat) is associated with impaired Ca2+ influx through TRPV4 channels and vasodilation induced by muscarinic stimulation and GSK1016970A (TRPV4 agonist) in resistance mesenteric arteries from mice. The gene discussed is TRPV4; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
