“COVID coagulopathy” manifests mainly as a prothrombotic state affecting both large and small blood vessels, and presenting as arterial, venous, and microangiopathic thrombotic events.4, 5Coagulopathy with D-dimer elevations is reported in most hospitalized COVID-19 patients.6, 7, 8A recent study showed that markers of endothelial damage such as von Willebrand factor (VWF) and soluble thrombomodulin were also increased in COVID-19 hospitalized patients. Here, VWF is linked to blood coagulation disease.
