The cancer alleles found in our study did not match those of the BTN1 lineage from M. trossulus populations on the American coast of the Pacific Ocean but matched the alleles of BTN2 lineage, which has been previously diagnosed in M. edulis from Europe and in M. chilensis from Chile and Argentine but not in M. trossulus, from which it is originally derived from. The gene discussed is BTN1A1; the disease is cancer.
