Based on this role, inhibition of HDAC6 has previously been tested successfully in preclinical models of other neurodegenerative diseases related to protein aggregation, such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, hereditary spastic paraplegia, polyglutamine diseases, and Charcot‐Marie‐Tooth disease (Simões‐Pires et al, 2013; Guo et al, 2019). This evidence concerns the gene HDAC6 and neurodegenerative disease.
