Common biomarkers that are elevated in COVID-19 are cardiomyocyte-specific biomarkers [high-sensitivity troponin and N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide [NT-pro-BNP]] and coagulation (fibrinogen, D-dimer, prothrombin time, partial thromboplastin time) and inflammatory markers (C-reactive protein, interleukin-6, lactate dehydrogenase and ferritin) (Fig. 1) [3].
