BCAM and visceral leishmaniasis: Lu, as well as UA, was poorly investigated concerning the leishmanicidal effect, and few available works showed the therapeutic activity of this triterpene only in the murine model of visceral leishmaniasis that mimics the acute phase of infection; thus, currently, this is the first work showing that Lu is able to decrease amastigote forms in the spleen and liver from hamsters in the chronic phase of visceral leishmaniasis.
