Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) can be further subdivided, according to genetic signatures, into luminal androgen receptor (LAR), mesenchymal (MES), and two basal-like subtypes (positive for high-molecular-weight cytokeratins): immunosuppressed (basal-like immunosuppressed, BLIS) and immune-activated (basal-like immune-activated, BLIA), depending on the upregulation or downregulation of genes associated with T, B, and natural killer (NK) cells (14, 36, 37).
