A recent study reported a significant increase in the percentage of CD44+/CD24–/low breast CSCs in biopsies specimens following chemotherapy (Abraham et al., 2005), suggesting that modulating Notch in breast cancers may be a promising strategy to reduce drug resistance by eliminating the CSC subpopulation (Shah et al., 2018; Najafi et al., 2019). The gene discussed is CD24; the disease is breast cancer.
