Similarly to what was described in the adipose tissue, several studies found comparable NK frequencies in the livers of obese and lean patients (41) and in mice during experimental NASH, though liver NK cells exhibited increased cytokine (IFNγ) production (44) but reduced cytotoxic capacity, which was negatively correlated with disease severity (41) (Figure 1). The gene discussed is IFNG; the disease is metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis.
