A recent meta-analysis demonstrated that CSF levels of Aβ, p-tau and total tau (t-tau) were not associated with prediabetes status overall; however, prediabetes was associated with lower Aβ levels (indicative of greater Aβ plaque deposition in the brain) and higher t-tau levels among participants with memory impairment, suggesting that prediabetes may accelerate AD progression (18). This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and Alzheimer disease.
