The EVE Consortium replicated the association between asthma susceptibility and SNPs near IL33 (rs2381416) and IL1RL1 (rs10173081) [20], although later studies showed a strong association with atopic asthma but not with non-atopic asthma [24], while also identifying a susceptibility locus near the TSLP gene (an epithelial-cell-derived cytokine that regulates allergic inflammation), where a single SNP (rs1837253) showed to be protective against the risk for TH2-asthma. This evidence concerns the gene TSLP and atopic asthma.
