VIM and head and neck squamous cell carcinoma: Furthermore, Slug-positive HNSCC specimens had a lower expression of epithelial E-cadherin (p < 0.05) and β-catenin (p < 0.05), a lower E-cadherin/β-catenin co-expression (p < 0.05), and a higher vimentin/cytokeratin ratio (p = 0.01), indicating simultaneous downregulation of epithelial markers and upregulation of mesenchymal markers consistent with EMT [25].
