A pathophysiological role of the NLRP3 inflammasome has been also shown in animal models of injury due to anticancer treatments (i.e., chemotherapy and radiation therapy), obesity and age-associated metabolic derangements, diabetic cardiomyopathy, pericarditis, myocarditis, and cardiac sarcoidosis [14,28]. The gene discussed is NLRP3; the disease is diabetic cardiomyopathy.
