Still, it should be obvious that if TLR2, TLR4, TLR7 and NLRP3 are all activated, as they appear to be in most human patients and in animal models such as murine polymicrobial sepsis (Table 1), then the sepsis profile will differ from that of severe COVID-19 and ALI/ARDS, since it is lacking activations, and attendant synergisms/antagonisms, involving TLR3 and TLR9, possibly substituting these with activation of TLR5 or TLR6. This evidence concerns the gene NLRP3 and COVID-19.
