The higher relative amount of brown adipose tissue in EA-treated rats was accompanied by a shift in its transcriptomic profile showing downregulation of BAT activation markers such as Dio2 and Nr4a1 and upregulation of insulin-sensitizing gene Pla2g2a. As the prevalence of metabolic syndrome is still increasing, the dietary supplementation with either purified ellagic acid or food high in ellagic acid could potentially be an effective interventional strategy. This evidence concerns the gene DIO2 and metabolic syndrome.
