This inconsistency between the CD44+/CD24− phenotype and the correlated tumorigenicity has already been documented for other breast cancer cells cultivated as adherent colonies or mammospheres [50,51] and for the TNBC cell line MDA-MB-468 which consists mainly of CD44+/CD24+ cells despite being tumorigenic [52], similarly to BCSC3. The gene discussed is CD44; the disease is breast cancer.
