Because hypercholesterolemia (with elevated LDL-C levels) in mice favors the differentiation of Tregs in the early stages of atherosclerosis [60,61] and enhances TCR-signaling events in Tregs [59], it must be hypothesized that in healthy mice, a cellular Treg-driven protective autoimmune response against LDL-C/ApoB exists [247].
