To date, IBD treatment is based on corticosteroids (for the acute phases), mesalamine (only for UC), traditional immunosuppressants and targeted therapies; this last category includes: anti-tumor necrosis factor α (TNFα), anti-integrin, anti-interleukin (IL) 12/23 and Janus kinases (JAK) inhibitors [3,4,5]. The gene discussed is TNF; the disease is inflammatory bowel disease.
