PVALB and status epilepticus: In particular, the hippocampal neurons show the different cell death patterns in response to status epilepticus (SE, a prolonged and uncontrolled seizure activity): parvalbumin (PV) cells (one of the GABAergic interneurons) show apoptotic events with excessive mitochondrial fission, while CA1 neuronal death is necrotic, accompanied by abnormal mitochondrial elongation.
