Furthermore, the development of atopic asthma following early life RV-induced wheezing was associated with DNA methylation changes at several asthma susceptibility loci, such as the promoter region of the SMAD family member 3 gene (SMAD3) in chromosome 15q22.33 and introns of the D-aspartate oxidase (DDO)/ methyltransferase like 24 (METTL24) genes in the 6q21 locus [246].
