A cross-sectional analysis of FGF23 and markers of inflammation in the Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort (CRIC), a multicenter cohort comprised of nearly 4000 adult, Stage 2–4 CKD patients, has shown that FGF23 was independently associated with high levels of IL-6, fibrinogen, CRP and TNF-α, with correlation being strongest with IL-6 and fibrinogen [162]. This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and chronic kidney disease.
