VEGFA and neoplasm: Bevacizumab (BVZ) is a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody, available in the EU as Avastin® since 2005, directed against vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), which is responsible for the proliferation and migration of vascular endothelial cells causing tumor angiogenesis in vivo [1], which plays a central role in tumor growth, invasion and metastasis, also acting as a survival factor for endothelial cells via the inhibition of apoptosis.
