RRM2 was reported to play an oncogenic role by protecting tumor cells from endogenous replication stress (Zhang et al., 2019), defects in genes in the DNA repair pathways (Mazzu et al., 2019), angiogenesis (Zhang et al., 2009), etc. Some recent studies also revealed that RRM2 participated in hepatocellular carcinogenesis (Wang et al., 2016; Wu et al., 2018b; Yang, Lin & Liu, 2020), consistent with our results.
