SPHK1 overexpression, for instance, has been described in different cancer subtypes both in in vivo and in vitro studies, and its role in tumor initiation, progression (e.g., angiogenesis) and metastasis has been shown, e.g., in lung cancer, breast cancer, pancreatic cancer and colorectal cancer (Acharya et al. 2019; Guillermet-Guibert et al. 2009).
