Given that Ang II elicits its pressor action primarily by Gq-dependent activation of AT1, the absence of AT1-Gq activation by oxLDL can answer the question raised in our previous study (Yamamoto et al., 2015) regarding the lack of association between hypertension and elevated circulating oxLDL concentration in patients with atherosclerosis (Toshima et al., 2000). This evidence concerns the gene AGTR1 and atherosclerosis.
