In SSc studies, it was found that the serum HLA‐G (sHLA‐G) levels in SSc patients with human herpesvirus‐6 (HHV‐6) infection were significantly increased and that the production of sHLA‐G in endothelial cells can possibly inhibit angiogenesis in the presence of a viral infection.52 The gene discussed is HLA-G; the disease is systemic sclerosis.
