EBV-encoded RNAs (EBERs) in NPC cells have also been shown to deregulate cellular lipid metabolism in a similar manner to EBV-associated proteins; 19 out of 54 genes upregulated by EBERs were shown to be involved in lipid metabolism, including SREBF1/2, FASN and low density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR), and inhibition of FASN significantly decreased cell growth [22]. This evidence concerns the gene FASN and nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
