Recent studies have revealed a high prevalence of sarcopenia in patients with CKD,the presence of which can lead to such unfavorable outcomes as bone fractures, highhospitalization rates and mortality7,8.CKD has been documented to induce acatabolic state mediated by inflammatory mechanisms and metabolic derangements, including malnutrition, insulin/insulin-like growth factor-1 resistance, andpro-inflammatory cytokine expression. This evidence concerns the gene IGF1 and chronic kidney disease.
