MPO has previously shown linear relation to the number of neutrophil cells and has been demonstrated to be elevated in the populations with enteropathy and associated with the acquisition of linear growth defects in the children from the endemic countries.20,22–24 MPO was also increased significantly following ETEC infection in a recent murine model study.25 In our study, following ETEC challenge, MPO in stool increased significantly, representing highly increased neutrophil activity at the level of the intestine. The gene discussed is MPO; the disease is Abnormal intestine morphology.
