Expression of IL-31RA is tightly regulated within the various cells found in the lung (90), and in vitro studies have suggested IL-31-stimulation of bronchial cells results in the production of proinflammatory cytokines, growth factors, and chemokines, which could contribute to the inflammation, tissue damage and pulmonary remodeling observed in asthma (91). The gene discussed is IL31; the disease is asthma.
