Our results showed that HCC‐secreted LGALS3 could directly induce osteoclastogenesis, which was consistent with the effect of breast cancer‐secreted LGALS3 on promoting osteoclast differentiation.[17] Interestingly, it has been also reported that prostate cancer‐secreted LGALS3 inhibits osteoblast, but not osteoclast, differentiation.[27] Hence, secreted‐LGALS3 from different cancer types may have distinct biological activities in modulation of bone microenvironment via diverse mechanisms. The gene discussed is LGALS3; the disease is prostate carcinoma.
