Higher expression of occludin and ZO-1, which are biomarkers for intestinal barrier integrity, were found in the SB + SJ group compared to that in the SHR group (Figures 5D–G), indicating that hypertension may damage intestinal barrier integrity, and oral administration of SB and SJ may improve the intestinal barrier integrity in SHRs. Here, TJP1 is linked to hypertensive disorder.
