In contrast to the null association of DLK1 concentrations with GDM risk in the present analysis, which is compatible with the reported lack of association with hepatic glucose output (29), in a subset of women for whom blood pressure measurements in pregnancy were available, we found that circulating DLK1 concentrations were positively associated with a higher risk for gestational hypertension despite their association with increased offspring birthweight. Here, DLK1 is linked to preeclampsia.
